I had high expectations for this book, because Kami Garcia is co - author of the Beautiful Creatures series. I really enjoyed this book. It is fast - paced, and it doesn't drag. There's always something happening. I found the female protagonist in this book, Kennedy, to be extremely likeable. She is thrown into a world that she's only see on television, and unlike other novels, it takes her time to adjust to her new surroundings. She makes mistakes, and is a very ordinary girl, which made her seem very real to me.
This is a paranormal story, right? It's scary. Kami has a way of telling stories that scared the life out of me at times.
The plotline is quite good, and there's an unexpected twist that will leave you breathless. I would recommend this book to lovers of paranormal and fantasy, as I feel that they will enjoy it thoroughly.
